60 months for illegal alien drug dealer who’s been at it since 1998
A four-time deported Honduran who racked up his first San Francisco drug dealing arrest nearly three decades ago was sentenced to 60 months’ imprisonment at the city’s federal courthouse today after being caught selling cocaine to an FBI informant.
Lary Amador Garin sold an ounce of cocaine to the informant for $750 in the parking lot of the Serramonte Center in Daly City in 2024. In the following months, he agreed to sell a kilo of cocaine for $19,000 and arranged for an accomplice to sell a pound of methamphetamine for $1,200.
“If you come back, sir, it’ll be really, really bad,” U.S. District Judge Susan Illston told him today, “that’ll be a separate offense…and you could get in great trouble, so please do not come back without permission.”
Illston agreed with a joint defense and prosecution recommendation of a 60-month sentence after Amador earlier pleaded guilty to distribution of cocaine and methamphetamine.
The court was told that Amador had been arrested at least seven times for drug offenses in San Francisco alone, alongside arrests in other parts of the peninsula.
“The defendant is a recidivist drug dealer with a long history of selling drugs in the Bay Area,” wrote assistant U.S. attorney Nicholas Parker in a sentencing memorandum. “He was first arrested on drug charges in San Francisco in March 1998, when he was 21 years old.”
He was deported to Honduras in 2004, 2009, 2021 and 2022.
After a 2017 arrest for drug dealing, he was sentenced to 41 months’ imprisonment at San Francisco federal courthouse.
Amador spoke briefly, through a Spanish interpreter, to apologize to his family.
The court was told that, in between dealing, Amador also worked as an Uber and Lyft driver – raising questions as to how an illegal alien felon, with state and federal prison terms under his belt, was able to obtain rideshare driving work with such apparent ease.
Prosecutors said it was “likely” he would return to the United States again after release.
