“Crazy ex-boyfriend” accused of murdering Mission District woman’s new partner was out on bail in a San Francisco assault weapons case
The “crazy ex-boyfriend” accused of murdering a Mission District woman’s new partner was out on bail in a San Francisco assault weapons case at the time of the slaying, it has emerged.
Prosecutors say 21-year-old Trayvon Williams stormed into his ex’s apartment on 26th Street just after midday on May 2 2024. He then drew an assault rifle, entered her bedroom and opened fire on Keyandre Bates.
The woman herself had left home minutes earlier to walk her dog. As she returned, court documents say, she saw Williams running away and the pair made eye contact. She then discovered her boyfriend dead on the floor of their bedroom.
He had been hit by bullets in the neck and chest.
In security camera footage captured in the apartment’s hallway, Williams appears to switch on a light before shouting “Wake up Nigga” several times at the victim. More words are exchanged, gunfire is heard, and then Williams is seen first leaving the bedroom and then leaving the apartment.
The woman told responding paramedics and police she knew the culprit was Williams, whom she described as her “crazy ex-boyfriend.” Her brother, who was asleep in another room, told police that the pair had had issues since splitting up a few months previously. He and his sister had been endeavoring to obtain a restraining order with respect to him, he told police.
The suspect was arrested five days after the murder in Marin County.

Williams, 21, was out on bail at the time of Keyandre Bates’ murder.
Officers from SFPD’s gun crime intelligence center had observed photographs of “firearms and assault rifles” on Williams’ Instagram account during early summer 2024. Those officers, assisted by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, subsequently executed a search warrant at his home in the Hunters Point neighborhood. In addition to a drum magazine in his bedroom, Williams was found with the keys to his girlfriend’s car parked nearby. In that car was a loaded Polymer 80 “assault style” ghost gun which Williams admitted was his.
He was charged with felony possession of a firearm and assault rifle. He posted bail and was released. Prosecutors’ objections to his release were disregarded.

Williams will appear today in Department 20 at the Hall of Justice for a preliminary hearing. He has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to murder and five other felony charges.
The case continues.
