A felon who shot two men on a San Francisco street during a week-long spree of violence pleaded guilty to a separate gun possession charge today in federal court, weeks after pleading guilty to attempted murder in state court for the brazen attack.
Deshun Augman shot two men on 6th Street in the city’s Mid-Market district on the evening of July 16 2022 – one who was sitting in a parked car and another standing nearby. He then tried to finish off one fallen man with a coup de grâce. Both victims were seriously wounded but survived.
On Tuesday, Augman, 38, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition and received a time served sentence stemming from an incident five days earlier where he escaped an SFPD officer attempting to arrest him but left behind a bag containing one of his guns.
The court heard that Augman was in the process of stealing hundreds of dollars’ worth of merchandise from the Lowe’s home improvement store in the Bayview neighborhood when he was stopped by a staff member and a police officer. A 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun was later found in his bag.
“This was terribly serious conduct which fortunately did not result in the loss of someone’s life,” said U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley. “We’re also fortunate that you are standing before us today and you have not lost your life – which is miraculous if you ask me.”

Three days after the shootings, Aguman was arrested in the Tenderloin following an armed robbery of a liquor store in which he was alleged to have been an accomplice.
After accepting Augman’s guilty plea today, Corley immediately imposed a time served sentence.
The court was told that, as a consequence of his July 10 conviction on the attempted murder charge, it is expected that Augman will receive a 10-year state prison term at his sentencing next month.
Augman’s rap sheet includes convictions for battery (2005), solicitation of a lewd act (2005), being a felon in possession of a firearm (2010), disorderly conduct (2011), failure to register as a sex offender (2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017), resisting arrest (2017) and burglary (2018, 2019 and 2020).

“I plan on getting a job and staying out of trouble,” Augman told Judge Corley this morning in response to her inquiry as to what he intends to do upon his release.
He will next appear on August 18 at San Francisco’s Hall of Justice.
