Sex-with-minor felon, arrested for gun possession, released after prosecution snafu
A man who sexually preyed on a 16-year-old runaway later found dead on a San Francisco street, who was arrested again last month for firearms possession in Civic Center, was released today after prosecutors told a court that they were not able to proceed with his parole revocation hearing.
Javonn Allen was ordered released by Judge Sylvia Husing in Department 19 of the city’s Hall of Justice this afternoon.
Husing was told by assistant district attorney Lisa Culbertson that her office was bereft of witnesses — including one who hadn’t been notified — and so the case could not be heard.
“So Mr Allen will be released on own recognizance?” asked defense attorney Nadia Iqbal.
“Yes,” replied Husing.
The judge refused an enterprising attempt by Iqbal to dismiss the case entirely.
She reset the hearing for June 3 at 1:30pm and ordered Allen to report to a parole officer within 24 hours of his leaving jail.
Authorities moved to revoke his probation after his arrest on April 15 2025 for possessing a loaded firearm. Although he was ordered to register as a sex offender at the time of his earlier sentencing his name does not yet feature on the state Megan’s Law database.
The case continues.
