Man accused of ambush attack on woman driver after hiding in her unlocked car on San Francisco street
A man accused of a nightmare attack on his ex, just after she dropped off their child at school last month, will appear in a San Francisco courtroom later today.
Prosecutors say Ibrahim Hornesby, 43, concealed himself in the back seat of his victim’s unlocked car on the morning of May 7, as she went to drop off a child at a Fillmore district school.
As she returned and got back into the vehicle, they say, Hornesby emerged and grabbed her from behind – strangling her with one arm while putting a knife to her stomach.
The brave woman fought to get free and, in her effort to escape, sustained knife wounds to her hand and had her hair pulled. She was ultimately able to throw herself out of the car and scream for help.
The woman told cops she was in fear for her life during the assault.
According to court documents, when he was arrested later that morning, Hornesby fought with cops and was hospitalized for injuries to his face, head and elbow. At the hospital, he leaped on top of a gurney and shouted that he wanted to be killed, triggering a further struggle with police.

One week before the incident, it is alleged, Hornesby menaced the woman with a knife.

The court was earlier told Hornesby had previous convictions for domestic violence, against another victim, and a strike conviction for first-degree residential burglary.
“[C]lear and convincing evidence shows that [Hornesby’s] release poses a substantial likelihood of great bodily injury to others,” wrote assistant district attorney Rachel McDaniel in a motion to detain. “[He] has already threatened the life of the victim using a deadly weapon and strangulation.”
She said the suspect and victim had a custodial dispute over their child.
Hornesby, who has pleaded not guilty to seven felony and three misdemeanor charges, including attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment and assault with a deadly weapon, will appear in court this morning for a status hearing. He remains in custody.
The case continues.
