Prolific SF teen menace back in court for armed robbery of vulnerable 82 year old woman in Oakland

A prolific teen criminal, whose string of arrests for violence and mayhem in San Francisco and around the Bay has hitherto not persuaded judges to lock him up, appeared in court again today charged with the robbery of a vulnerable senior on November 1.
Prosecutors say Cameron Haynes and two accomplices robbed an 82-year-old woman of the money she had just withdrawn from an ATM in a shopping center in Oakland’s Piedmont district. An Alameda judge was told that a police helicopter tracked the vehicle which afforded other officers the opportunity to disable it and arrest the suspects.
Multiple guns were found during the investigation, according to Oakland PD, and Haynes and Smith are both accused of being armed.
At the time of his latest arrest Haynes was on bail after wrecking a car during an SFPD chase while armed, while on bail after wrecking a car during another SFPD chase while armed, while on bail for a string of San Francisco auto burglaries and while suspected of involvement in the robbery and killing of Oakland baker Jen Engel (aka Jen Angel).

Arrested alongside Haynes was San Francisco resident Dale Smith. Smith was convicted in October 2021 of felony possession of an assault weapon for which he was given probation by San Mateo Superior Court.
He was seen disposing of one of the “multiple” firearms police were later to find.
The third participant does not yet appear to have been charged and may be a juvenile.
This morning Haynes and Smith appeared in department 112 of Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland before Superior Court Judge Elena Condes.
The pair face charges of second degree robbery, vehicle burglary and unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle. Smith faces an additional charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The judge brushed off requests to release the defendants on their own recognizance.
“While he may be only 19,” said Judge Condes of Haynes, “he has a strike prior and three failures-to-appear in the misdemeanor diversion case.”
“Given the seriousness of this case the court is going to deny the OR request.”
“The Court’s charge is the protection of the public,” said Condes of Smith, “and to prey on an 82-year-old person alone…suggests that pretrial release will result in a danger to the community.”
Condes set provisional bail for Haynes at $175,000 and $115,000 for Smith.
Attorneys for Haynes and Smith entered across-the-board ‘not guilty’ pleas on behalf of the pair. They remain in custody ahead of their next appearance in department 115 on November 14 for a pre trial hearing.
The case continues.
