Suspects in San Francisco horror attack nabbed after eight-month search
Further details are emerging in a disturbing 2025 attempted murder case – in which a man was left for dead on a San Francisco street after being hit in the head with a hammer then shot in the chest.
Paul Domingo was nabbed last month after an eight-month investigation. He is accused of using a hammer to smash the victim’s skull in the October 21 attack in the Tenderloin district.
Alleged triggerman Howard Edejer is in custody in Napa County.
Prosecutors say the incident was precipitated by the victim, concerned for his pregnant girlfriend, asking Domingo not to smoke near her on Willow Street at around 7:00pm.
“[Domingo] left the area but approximately 2-3 hours later…returned with an accomplice,” wrote assistant district attorney Rebecca Warren in a motion to detain. “Defendant wore a motorcycle helmet to conceal his identity and he approached the victim and repeatedly struck the victim in the head with a hammer causing a skull fracture and severe bleeding.”
“As the victim struggled on the ground, the accomplice shot the victim once in the chest with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol,” she added.
After the attack, police say, Edejer handed the gun to Domingo and the pair ran down Willow Street to the back entrance of the Vance apartment building. There they made a call to a resident who let them into the building.
The duo were linked to the crime by DNA testing of items recovered from the crime scene, including the motorcycle helmet and a hoodie.
Domingo was captured on July 15 2026 by eagle-eyed sheriff’s deputies while he was standing on a sidewalk at 5th and Mission Streets. A search of his bag turned up a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.
Domingo’s rap sheet includes convictions for gun offenses, burglary and theft. At the time of the crime he was on ‘post-release community supervision’ in a Contra Costa County gun case.
He has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to attempted murder and firearms offenses.
Edejer was arrested on June 3, 2026 after months as a fugitive, having skipped court on a separate 2024 case in Napa charging him with firearms possession and evading police. He is now held in Napa County jail, where he was sentenced this week by Judge Joseph Solga to five years and four months’ imprisonment after being convicted of those charges.
It is not known when he will appear in San Francisco.
