18-year-old suspect in March 2025 Bayview mass shooting arrested, will appear at key hearing

A teen accused of opening fire on a Bayview street – gravely wounding four people and damaging multiple cars – will appear in court today, having been arrested nine months after the incident.

Prosecutors say Sincere Knowledge Davis, 18, shot the quartet as they enjoyed a barbecue on Acacia Avenue on the afternoon of March 30 2025. Two unnamed accomplices joined the attack, which provoked two of the victims to draw their own guns and shoot back but fail to hit their target.

He was arrested by an investigator for the San Francisco district attorney’s office on December 17.

The court was earlier told that Davis was one of three men who became embroiled in an argument with the victims one hour before the shooting. The group of four later held a barbecue outside 160 Acacia Avenue in the Bayview during which the rival group arrived, drew firearms and shot at them.

Samuel Thomas and Tieisha Simon received gunshot wounds to the chest. James Brisker was shot in the knee and hand. Alvin Norman was hit in the arm. Three made their own way to San Francisco General Hospital while one was found when police arrived at the scene and then taken to the ER.

“[Camera] footage shows the defendant and the two other men shooting at all four victims,” wrote assistant district attorney Phoebe Maffei in a motion to detain. “Two of the victims appeared to return fire, as seen in the surveillance footage, but none of the initial shooters were wounded.”

Prosecutors say police recognized Davis immediately from the video and that he was also identified by someone they describe as a witness to the shooting.

Earlier that day, the Bayview had been rocked by a 75-round ‘spray and pray’ shooting just steps from the Alice Griffith Apartments. Police reported seven vehicles were damaged in the incident.

Davis was arrested on December 17, one month after an arrest warrant was inked by a judge. One of the victims, Alvin Norman, was arrested on December 13 and charged with firearm offenses.

Davis will appear today in Department 11 of San Francisco’s Hall of Justice for a preliminary hearing at which a judge will determine whether the evidence is sufficient to send the case to trial.

He earlier pleaded not guilty to assault with a firearm and firearm possession charges, which bring with them a maximum sentence of 29 years’ imprisonment. He remains in custody.

The case continues.
