Heavily-armed Sunset district burglary crew, equipped with machine gun, fled at 110mph – prosecutors

A holiday season burglary spree that saw a heavily-armed gang smash their way into businesses across San Francisco’s Sunset district, culminated in a 110mph police pursuit in which the perpetrators discharged fire extinguishers from a car in a bid to cover their escape, prosecutors say.

Several stores along the city’s Sloat Boulevard corridor were hit in the early hours of December 30 2024 as first reported by @FriscoLive415.

While SFPD officers were on the scene of a burglary at the Java Beach coffee shop, near San Francisco Zoo, where money had been taken from a safe, they were called to a burglary in progress at a Chipotle restaurant one mile along the road.

On arrival they saw suspects running from the eatery, which was closed, and jumping into two cars parked nearby.

While a BMW escaped, officers were able to pursue a Nissan Altima, which ran stop signs on its way to the freeway before fleeing at 110mph. During the chase up and down the 280, the car’s occupants discharged fire extinguishers out of both sides of the vehicle causing fire retardant to hit the pursuing car’s windshield.

Driver Dominic Logan, 29, and two juveniles were caught shortly after they ditched the Altima just off the 280 in the city’s Cayuga Terrace neighborhood.

One other occupant of the car escaped.

Police found two loaded semi-automatic pistols and a loaded machine gun inside the car along with screwdrivers, bolt cutters, a saw and a tip jar taken from one of the businesses. The vehicle’s plates had also been switched.

Dominic Logan

Logan’s rap sheet includes convictions in San Francisco for carrying a concealed firearm (2015), carrying a loaded firearm (2019) and assault weapon possession (2021).

In 2020 Logan and four others were arrested in connection with gang-related shootings in and around the city’s Sunnydale projects.

In November 2016 KTVU’s Christien Kafton captured impromptu footage of Logan being hauled back to the Hall of Justice by a phalanx of Sheriff’s deputies after he ran from a courtroom on the building’s third floor.

Logan remains in custody ahead of his scheduled appearance tomorrow in Department 12 at San Francisco Hall of Justice for his preliminary hearing. He earlier pleaded not guilty to seven felony charges and one misdemeanor charge stemming from the incident.

The case continues.
