Two Sureño gang members accused of 2023 Mission murder

Further details are emerging in the case of an October 2023 shooting that left a man dead on a Mission district street near a bar he had just left with friends.

A federal grand jury has indicted Eduardo Alvarez and Loel Amador on a charge of racketeering conspiracy. It is alleged that they are members of the Sureño Mexican criminal gang and involved with frequent acts of violence and firearms possession in San Francisco.

Federal prosecutors say that Alvarez was one of two people who opened fire on Roderick Scott Jr as he left Beauty Bar just before 2am on October 7 last year.

The court was shown screenshots from security footage which, it was claimed, show Alvarez (in the right-middle wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes) alongside Amador (in the front-right wearing a black cap, white shorts and a black and white shirt) immediately prior to the murder.

Amador, also known as ‘Demon’, is accused of summoning fellow gang members to aid in the attack. He was on parole at the time of the murder. He had been convicted in San Francisco Superior Court on one count of being a felon in possession of firearm in 2022 after an incident on November 1 2021 where SFPD found one gun strapped to his ankle and another in his car.

San Francisco’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed the identity of the victim as 28-year-old Roderick Le Andrew Scott Jr of Santa Clara County.

Amador, 28, failed in a bid to secure pretrial release this morning at a hearing at San Francisco federal courthouse.

“I’m going to order the defendant detained as a danger to the community,” said U.S. Magistrate Judge Thomas Hixson. “The nature of the offense charged is aiding and abetting murder…it shows a serious danger to the community.”

He will next appear on December 4 before U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley. He is presently held at San Francisco County Jail.

Alavarez, 36, has not sought a detention hearing and remains in custody in Santa Rita Jail. He will appear before Judge Corley on November 27.

The case continues.
