Man survived gunshot to the face in Bayview road rage attack

A man accused of shooting another driver in the face during a San Francisco road rage incident pleaded not guilty this morning in superior court.

Prosecutors say Edward Stone lost his cool while behind the wheel of a Kia Stinger in the city’s Bayview neighborhood at midday on August 4 2025.

The incident began at the intersection of Palou Avenue and Industrial Street when Stone got out of his car and brandished a semiautomatic pistol at another driver in a Subaru.

“Scared for his safety, the victim drove away and, while trying to pass the defendant and the Kia, the victim clipped the back bumper of the Kia,” wrote assistant district attorney Rebecca Warren in a motion to detain. “Defendant got back into the Kia and followed the victim.”

The threatened driver’s escape was stymied by stopped traffic and Stone caught up with him one block away. He opened fire on the car, shattering the back passenger window and hitting the victim in the jaw. Staff from a nearby tire store came to the man’s aid and summoned paramedics and police. The victim survived the attack.

Stone was later found by SFPD sitting in the Kia deep in the heart of the Hunters Point district. A search of his home in the Alice Griffith projects turned up 9mm ammunition and the sweater that cops say he was wearing at the time of the attack.

The defendant was held to answer and sent for trial on August 20. Today, he entered pleas of not guilty to various firearms and assault charges before Judge Teresa Caffese at San Francisco Hall of Justice.

Stone, who remains in custody, will next appear for a pretrial conference on October 21.

The case continues.
