Sex predator on probation accused of horrifying sexual assault on woman riding late-night MUNI bus

A sex predator accused of strangling and sexually assaulting a lone woman traveler on a late-night San Francisco bus was on probation and parole at the time of the attack, it has emerged.
Prosecutors say Dasan Brown approached the woman to ask her the time while she was riding a MUNI bus in the city’s Taraval district just after 11pm on April 26. Moments later, he pulled his victim to the vehicle’s floor, choked her to near unconsciousness, pulled her clothes off and sexually assaulted her.
The victim told police that she though she was going to die.
“He attempted to rape a woman on a public bus,” wrote assistant district attorney Tanisha Gooch in a motion to detain. “She was assaulted, her clothing stripped, groped, thrown to the floor, strangled and she though [Brown] would kill her.”
“[Brown] kept assaulting [her] even after the bus driver told him to stop.”
Brown will appear at San Francisco’s Hall of Justice today for a pretrial conference.

The court was earlier told that, at the time of the attack, Brown was on probation following a 2025 conviction for sexual battery in Contra Costa County. He was also convicted of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment and firearms possession in Lake County in 2023 and was on state registries for sex offenders and arsonists.
It is unclear how and why Brown ended up in San Francisco. Contra Costa probation officials stressed that the defendant was on ‘court probation’ following his conviction there, and not under their supervision. As such there appeared to be no impediment to him traveling to the city.
Prosecutors say that Brown failed to register as a sex offender on arrival.
The defendant faces trial after Superior Court Judge Simon Frankel found there was sufficient evidence for the case to go before a jury in May.
Brown has pleaded not guilty to to seven felony and four misdemeanor charges.
