Sleeping San Francisco man miraculously survived point-blank shooting by own brother – prosecutors
A man accused of shooting his own brother at point-blank range while he slept appeared at San Francisco’s Hall of Justice today to face charges of attempted murder and a battery of firearms offenses.
Prosecutors say Eric Allen shot his victim in the early hours of January 30 2025 at their shared home in the city’s Bayview neighborhood.
The injured man, who was found nearby by police with two gunshot wounds to his chest and one to his arm, survived after undergoing multiple surgeries.
SFPD officers found four guns in the home, including a 7.62mm SKS assault rifle, a .380 Cobray submachine pistol, a .44 Ruger Vaquero revolver and a .45 Derringer-style semi-automatic pistol. Allen was arrested the next day.

Allen, 70, has previous San Francisco convictions for assault with a firearm in 1980, being a felon in possession of a firearm in 1984 and assault in 1999. He also has convictions for drugs sales.
Appearing this morning before Judge Sylvia Husing, Allen agreed to postpone his arraignment and will return to court to enter pleas on February 18.
The case continues.
