Felon punched victim to unconsciousness during two-day spree of random violence against women
A felon who violently assaulted women pedestrians during a two-day blitz of random violence in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district has been sent to trial.
On the morning of Sunday June 16 2024 Darrell Luckett walked up to a woman on Eddy Street who was returning home and, prosecutors say, “without provocation or warning,” punched her in the face so hard the she immediately dropped unconscious to the ground.
After being called by witnesses to the scene SFPD arrested Luckett, 40, nearby. They were quickly able to link him to other assaults and robberies against women as he was wearing the same gray hoodie with a distinctive pattern as the perpetrator of other attacks.

At 8:00pm the previous evening, Luckett violently assaulted a woman returning to her apartment building on Ellis Street near the intersection with Hyde Street.
“Don’t play with me, don’t walk around here,” he told his victim before repeatedly punching her in the face.
His bloodied victim was able to run away and call the police.

Earlier that day Luckett had approached a woman who was opening the entrance gate to her apartment building on the same block of Ellis Street.
“Bitch, give me everything you got,” Luckett told her. “If you don’t give it to me I’ll stab you,” he added, emphasizing his threat by brandishing a knife with one hand and grabbing her keys with the other.
The terrified woman ran into moving traffic to escape her attacker.
Surveillance footage obtained by investigators also showed Luckett, again displaying a knife, forcing a couple who were trying to go into the COVA Hotel on Ellis Street to flee for their lives.
Earlier this month, Luckett was sent to trial by San Francisco Superior Court Judge Murlene Randle on an assault charge relating to the attack on the 16th. Randle ordered that he be kept in custody.
Robbery and assault charges relating to the other incidents have yet to reach the preliminary hearing stage.
Luckett, who has previous felony convictions for first-degree burglary, drug-dealing and threatening behavior, will next appear in Department 22 at the Hall of Justice on July 19 2024.
No mugshot of Luckett is available because of SFPD’s policy forbidding their release.
